Ok so my last few days have been interesting to say the least. I play the $10 20k donkament which i documented in my last blog. Later that night I was bored and just play a $10 sit n donkament! I ended up winning that for $40 or something but I'm going to tell you about a hand and you figure out why later! We are heads up I have a slight lead. I get A3o on the button and raise it up, opponent calls. the flop comes K43 two hearts. opponent checks I fire a contiuation bet and he calls. The turn is a K but not a heart. He checks again, and I check behind afraid of maybe a check raised king. The river is another blank and he leads for an almost pot size bet and in chat i say "miss hears?" and call. He shows A9 of hearts for a busted heart draw! This will be important later.
So I got bored an decided to play the $3 rebuy with a 25k guarentee on stars. I basically ran incredibly well and have about 21k after the first break. I coasted after the break getting up to about 25k but finished the hour with about 21k again. After this break I was patient big up pots got up to around 30k then lost a hand were i made a bad read with JJ v QT and got down to like 12k. I grinded this stack out adn finished in like 240th for like around $50. This is way the weirdness of the day begins.
I was making myself some dinner but was still on my computer watching PearlJammer play, watching some other big tournaments, etc., so when I get a new email it pops up at the bottom of my screen on messenger. So I seen "Money Transfer" Stars Support! So I got my dinner came back and the email was gone! Weird! I forgot, earlier in the day, some tried logging into my fulltilt account why I was logged in but that brought up warning signs, so I tried to change all my passwords. So now I try and check my email again, but my password doesn't work. I am still on yahoo messenger at this time though. I try and log into my poker accounts and those are not working either. Somehow I am still on my fulltilt and change the email to a NEW email account I made and got a temp password. I transferred all my money out of the account. I also emailed stars and they froze my account. This is way it really gets weird. I'm talking to like Christi, Brian, Dave, and a few others who are trying to help me out. So Christi and a few others get a messege from my new email account (I'll post the conversation I had with the hacker below). The hacker had gotten on yahoo messenger under the new account I made. Yes, he hacked my new email address as well. So below is the conversation I had with said hacker. I'm x'ing out important information to me.

tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:01:55 PM): you have to be 18 to play real money on pokerstars br />
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:01:59 PM): but thats besides the point
jays_baseball07 (4/27/2008 10:02:02 PM): im talkin yahoo name

tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:05:21 PM): it brought me to the security question

tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:05:35 PM): you know what the question was

tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:05:57 PM): this wasnt hard to figure out
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:06:04 PM): since in your id, it begins jays
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:06:11 PM): so i put in BlueJays
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:06:27 PM): and then
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:06:35 PM): it gave me a temp password for your yahoo account
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:06:39 PM): and i was in,
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:07:01 PM): so i figured id try to figure out what your yahoo password was before you figured out i found it out
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:07:11 PM): and i had your railbirds password sent to your email
jays_baseball07 (4/27/2008 10:07:26 PM): so ur mmatt2008?
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:07:28 PM): and wow, it was your town?

tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:08:43 PM): and i think their id was mmatt2005 or somethin
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:08:49 PM): so i just made it as mmatt2008
jays_baseball07 (4/27/2008 10:09:04 PM): ok
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:09:05 PM): anyway
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:09:18 PM): your railbirds pw was sent as xxxxx
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:09:25 PM): so i changed your yahoo pw to that
jays_baseball07 (4/27/2008 10:09:35 PM): ya
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:09:56 PM): so ive had access to your account for at least a day now, do you know how much shit i could have stolen?
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:09:59 PM): OH
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:10:02 PM): and this is the best part
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:10:16 PM): when i went on pokerstars to try and figure out your pw,

tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:10:25 PM): its pretty tough ya know,
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:10:28 PM): not really
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:10:51 PM): it asks you a bunch of stuff if you were a real money player
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:11:02 PM): like your email addy and your address
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:11:09 PM): i knew one
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:11:15 PM): and i knew the town you lived in
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:11:21 PM): so i searched for it
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:11:32 PM): and i had no luck finding your actual address
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:11:45 PM): then i figured id try xxxxx
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:11:51 PM): and it opened lmao
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:12:04 PM): i was like, this guy needs to learn something

tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:12:58 PM): i was watching last night when you were heads up
tim.lindsay21 (4/27/2008 10:13:03 PM): and you called that guys bluff

I'm just happy I got my email secure. Once I found out about the poker sites, everything was handled in quick time so I was safe there. My email though was important. I have everything on the net linked to that account. My poker sites, all the forums, I'm on, I have my school email and homework forward to that account, all my facebook/myspace/etc are link to it as well. But it's safe now. But not we have information on this guy. When he hacked my fulltilt account, he changed the address. Also, we have other information on this guy like ip address and other things, so I'll keep you posted on that development! Crazy Shit! Crazy Shit!

So I got bored today and decided to play the $10 $20k Guarentee on PokerStars. I play fairly tight and got 2 basically double ups. I won 2 races for a change with AK vs 99 and another AK vs JJ. I basically just grinded out the whole tournament and basically finsihed 163 out of 2677. I'm sad that stars pay outs are so flat that I only made $32, but oh well. I'm going to post a few hands that I thought were intersting in the tournament which I will do after almost all my poker tournament blogs.
This first hand is basically a good example of an agressive play that didn't work out. Both of these players a fairly tight but I play fairly good against both of their ranges. The hand before the first play raised and the caller in the hand below 3-bet him and the original raiser folded. So this hand I figured the origial raiser was raising a little lighter than usually. The second guys flat call didnt look too strong to me, so basically I thought I had both players range beat. So basically the only way the villians are going to win the hand is having me beat cuse a push from them isn't going to get me to fold as I'm getting 2 to 1 against a range where I'm racing a good percent of the time.

This next hand is one that I think I played really well given the situation. I was just moved to the table about 5 hands earlier and don't really have a read on the opponent. He min raises and I flat call. I basically flat call to keep the pot small and also if I raise and get shoved on I basically have to fold as I'm dominated and racing against his range. So I basically flat call the flop for pot control. Also if I raise and he shoves on me I basically have to fold. So I thought I played this hand well.

The final hand is my bust out hand. I basically am trying to find a place to double or go home. I have 7 big blinds and a fairly active table, so I'm not getting very many chances to open push a hand. If you see in the chat after the hand the guy says lol 5 6. The table closed so I didn't get a chance to respond, but here's my reasoning behind the push. 1) I have 7 big blinds and need a double. 2) I have enough fold equity to steal the blinds and antes. 3) I'm never going to have a hand call me that has a 5 or 6 in it inless it is 55 or 66 so I'll have live cards. 4) I'm only a 35/65 dog to hands like AK, AQ, AJ, etc. which is fine by me with 7 big blinds. 5) Pray someone doesn't have an over pair! So there's my reasoning behind this push.

2nd in Railbirds Trny

So i ended up finished second in the $300 Railbirds tournament. I was basically in cruise control the whole time. I think I played extremely well, and got extremely unlucky heads up. About with 11 left, I raised from the small blind with 66 blind versus blind. The big blind shoved like 18 big blinds about 80% of my stack. I some how called and won the race. I basically controlled the final table to my liking. I eventualy got down to the final 3 with about 100k and 135k in play. I shoved on the big blind bvb @ 800/1600. He had about 15k. I had A2, he instacalled KQ and obviously hit a queen. Had a hand earlier 3 hand. Where the small blind shoved 8 big blinds with QJ suited and I called with K4 off and lost that one too. So we got heads up, I basically controlled the match except for one hand where the guy min bet called my 5x raise with bottom pair against my obvious air. So i basically got my money in good and got killed! He's the massacre:

Passive Vs. Aggression

(Read my first blog, And the story begins, if you havent before you read this one. Thanks!)
As I play these Railbirds real money games, I see two trends that seem to occur: being overly passive or being overly aggressive. There's a lot more too (Hey, why not talk about those too!). People have no idea about pot control and just bet, bet, bet or do stupid stuff like raising 4x the big blind and folding to a shove. Plain and simple the play is terrible in these tournaments and you have like 5 people who have any chances of constantly winning these tournaments.
Overly passive players are those who you can just run over all day. These players most likely blind down to 2 or 3 big blinds and have to depend on luck to have any chance of making any money. A perfect example of this is in the Full Tilt Sunday $1 million Guarentee. Now the fact that this player (a railbird regualr) was deep in a sunday major is shocking. Top 10 with 50 and goes on to spew off a third of their stack. Ok, no problem they still have an average stack and have a good chance of actually winning the tournament right? Nope. This players goes on to blind off about 150k in chips and eventually got down to 1.5 big blinds in probably the biggest tournament they will ever play. They gave themselves absolutely no chance at the over 180k first prize and basically settled for a 2k pay day. When your in for $14 and you're up 2k already, you have to go for the one spot. But that is the true railbirds style of poker. Fold, fold, fold. Get lucky with 2 big blinds (double up), get lucky again (double up) and get chips. It has to bet be the most -ev stragety I have ever seen. I almost shot myself watching the continued massacre in the FT Million. This is a basic summery of what the basically passive railbirds stragety is:
Fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, fold.
Thinks to self: 7 big blinds maybe I should make a move
Railbird Observer Chat: You have plenty of time, be patient.
Fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, fold.
Thinks to self: 2 big blinds maybe I should make a move.
Railbirds Observer Chat: Be Patient, only aces or kings!
Thinks to self: AQ any good? Hmm, Maybe I'll push with it. The big blind obviously calls any two cards and sucks out on the helpless AQ!
Railbird Observer Chat: Thats just brutal, unlucky bud! Such a donk call by the big blind. You played (we use play lightly here as we've been folding the last hour) a great game!
OMG! Are you serious? You blind down to 1.5 big blinds and then complain about getting sucked out on? That's just the mind set of a railbird. No concept of fold equity or chip stack in relation to the blinds.
So basically on the other end of the spectrum you have the overly agreessive no sense of pot control spewtards. I don't think I've seen more pot bets and 4x the big blind raising ever. And then the overly aggressive railbirds switch it up and throw in a min raise followed by a pot bet no matter what comes on the flop. You don't think we don't know you obviously have air? It's just funny watching the spewtards play big pot after big pot with the most marginal hand. I don't think check is even in their bag of tricks. It's like I can't even make fun of the spewtards because they at least give themselves a chance to win the tournament opposed to the compulsive folders mention before. But the most funny thing I see out of the spewtards is the raising 4x the big blind and folding to a re-raise when they are getting better than 2 to 1. You're just like can you really raise a bad enough hand where you fold to a re-raise getting such good odds? I thought you were a spewtard and then you fold in that spot. It's just lol'able every time you see.
So there's basically the railbirds for you. Fold, fold, fold, fold, fold or raise 4x the big blind get re-shoved on then fold getting better than 2 to 1 odds. It's so great to play against these people. Too bad I run terrible (sometimes). I played the $5 Railbirds $400 Guarentee on Full Tilt. Obviously I make it about 10 before the money. I have two limps at 200/400 and I have 4770 in chips so it's an obvious shove when I have JJ. First guy folds and the second person insta-calls with 88. 8 ball in the door on the flop. GG me! That's the only way I ever get knocked out of these tournaments. Oh well, its all good and I will crush these once more.

A little about me before I say the purpose of the blog (sorry for the length if it gets to long). I'm 19 years old from Raytown, Missouri. I graduated from Raytown High School in 2007. I was a 3 time lettermen in baseball and earned all-conference honors 2 times. I always was a memeber of the Syphonic band. I was all-state on clarinet (I also play saxophone, piano, and guitar). I have one brother, Ryan, who is 16 years old and also another brother, Chase, who is due in the middle of May. I'm transferring to the University of Missouri-Columbia in Columbia, Missouri this fall to study in prestigous Missouri Journalism School. So basically once I get down to COMO its going to be booze, girls, poker, and writing papers. YAY!!! I'm a die-hard sports fan. Royals are like the online Kansas City team I love. The Jacksonville Jaguars, and New Orleans Hornets are my other two passions in the sports field. Thats about all you need to know about me.
Ok, so I'm basically starting this blog as a way to track my poker playing over this coming summer. I currently have about 2 weeks left of the semester at college, so once that's over I'm basically going to be putting in a lot of volume in the online poker scene. I'm basically not going to be playing anything huge (inless I hit something big). $10-$30 mtt's and $1-$10 rebuys are about as big as I'm going to go starting out. I'm topping off my accounts on Full Tilt (Baseball Tim) and Poker Stars (BaseballTim1) at 2k and going to try and build my bankroll from there. If I don't get anything started and basically just fail then I will jsut go back to the casual playing that I am now. In the small sample size I have played I have had some success. Back in May 2007, I started playing the normal Full Tilt $100 freerolls and made a few dollars but I ended losing all the money I made from them. I then ran into these $200 freerolls run by railbirds.com and actually started to build my bankroll from those small winnings. In July 2007, I ran hot and actually finished first in the month railbirds freeroll rankings. I played a heads-up match against Swedish poker pro, William Thorson where i won $250 and there he offered to back me in the $215 Sunday Million that day. Somehow, I cashed in the tournament for around $500 which was huge for some who had never had their bankroll over $200. So by the end of August 2007, I built up my bankroll playing $1/$2 and $2/$4 limit cash games, sit n goes, etc. to almost $3k. I withdrew about $2k and left the rest in my account. I then went on to lose almost all the money in my account due to terrible bankroll management, varience, and to be frank terrible playing. I basically learned from this and have regretted my poor decisions from then.
Currently, I'm basically only playing railbirds real money games, some low limit cash games, and the occassional mid stakes mtt. That will change this summer obviously, but I will continue to play the railbirds tournaments as the winner of the real money rankings gets a $12k WSOP Package and I'm currently 4th in the rankings and have made almost $1k playing $1,$3,$5, and $10 tournaments. I'm not going to sugar coat it and say everyone is great on the site. There are tons of players who have huge leaks in their games and I think I should win the year rankings. The point system they have on the site is extremely flawed, the structure they have on their tournaments on PokerStars is horrendous, and the level pf play is not that great either. I'm sure to post a bunch of hands from the railbirds tournaments at the beginning of this blog as that will be the majority of the tournaments I will be playing for about the next month.
Along with my poker adventures I'll probably jsut through up some nonesense from my daily ventures through the horrible thing that is my life. That will be the blog where you look at the title and just roll your eyes and ignore it. I'll wrap this up and write something some time soon. (Sorry for all typos in future as I'm not going to edit posts as I'm lazy as fuck!).
