Full Speed Ahead!

Well, I am back for another blog entry. This one should be short and sweet but with yours truly you never know what you're going to get out of me. Just a few quick updates on what's been happening and what's in store in the coming weeks for me.

FTOPS has been going on and I have played a few events. I cashed in FTOPS Event #1 and then basically semi-bubbled FTOPS Event #2 at a fairly tough table. Event #1 was pretty simple. I basically got into a spot where I had to call off like half my chips in a spot where I should never be folding and getting my chips in the middle is an extremely standard spot and I was just unlucky. We are playing 6-max. Guy in the cutoff ships in like 10 big blinds, the button calls all-in for 7 big blinds, and I basically iso-shove with 77. I was shipping anyways so I do not really think the button calling all-in in this spot really makes a difference. Anyways, cutoff has KK and the button has AA, so I lose bout half my chips. After, I get it in KQ vs. A8o and lose the flip and I'm out.

In FTOPS #2 (7 Game Mix), I was at a pretty tough table pretty much the whole time I played. Doc Sands who is a top 10 ranked player on Pocket 5's was at my table the whole time. PiMaster was a name I recognized from the tourney regulars. Also, browndog15 was at the table and he had some pretty sick results. Basically, I did extremely well in the limit games. I do not think I made many mistakes. I probably lost a bet here and there, but overall I thought I played really well in the limit games. I played really well in the big bet games except for a couple hands that basically showed me my demise.

I got into a hand with Doc Sands blind v. blind. He raised it up and I called with QJo. Flop was a bunch of rag cards something like 972. He bet and I floated behind. Turn came a K(972). He checked called my half pot bet. River came a 6(K972). He check tank called my half pot bet with TT and shipped the bot. If I was thinking, I would not have gotten into a pot with one of the best online players in his best game. However, I tried to out play a player in a tournament that I really had no business trying to out play in that spot. In a normal No-Limit tournament, I think my play is fine, but in that spot I think it's table.

I busted like 80ish out of the money when I got KQJT v KK64 of browndog. I flopped a wrap, but true to form I bricked out. This play is probably really standard in this situation. I had something like 25-30 big blinds, so getting it in with a pretty good hand like 4 connecting paint cards is a good situation.

I skipped playing on Sunday just because I felt like complete crap. I started up and listened to most of the WSOP final table coverage and woke up feeling like I got hit in the head with a bowling ball. So when I'm sick I absolutely hate playing poker. Ultimately, I decided to skip the FTOPS events that I had planned on playing and saved like $600 on a Sunday.

Up next for me is a couple more FTOPS events and all of the Mini FTOPS events. I'm going to play the NL Cashout event which should be very interesting, the 216 NLHE, the $129 NLHE, and the Main Event. Run good one time! Also, I decided I was going to play all the Mini FTOPS events just because I have ran well in them before and it is basically 26 events for something close to $1k. I might run some prop bets out of the Mini Series. I almost definitely going to do something with TheMatrix and if there is something on Pocket 5's I will probably get in that prop bet as well. I will definitely keep you guys posted on any of those props.

Finally, I want to congrats Joe Cada on shipping the WSOP Main Event and becoming the youngest champion of the event. Congrats jcada99! Shippage for the online world!

I'm done! Out!

Update, Update, Update

Wow! I really didn't realize that this much time has pasted since the last time I updated my blog. Sorry to disappoint all of you in the last couple of months for my inactivity. With that sorry, I bring a promise of more and more blogs from yours truly. So, please do NOT kill me after the couple of months of blank air coming from the blog. Words will be printed on these pages. Do NOT worry.

In terms of updates, I finally hit my first big score. I shipped the $26 28k Guarantee on Full Tilt for about $6,700. With just this one tournament, everything in my poker career sort of changes. I now have a bankroll where I can comfortably play tournaments I want to play, but I also have room to take chances in bigger tournaments where the payoff launches professional poker careers and not just the random hobby career where I am now.

Also with just this one win, I have built tons for confidence in my poker game. It's difficult to go out there and keep making the correct play time after time when every time (or so it seems) you get sucked out on, lose a race, or are in a huge cooler situation. But in other terms of confidence, I might make some plays that I would not otherwise make if I was lacking in that area or would not have the balls as they say to pull it off. An example of this is a couple nights later at a $10 re-buy final table, I 4-bet on a guy with Ace-Nine (A9 offsuit) in a spot where if I did not have the confidence that he was making a move or did not have the confidence that he would fold, I might not have made the play and lost a lot of chip stack equality. That's just an example of confidence being there for you.

Besides the win, I made the $10 re-buy final table on Full Tilt and shipped like $850 for that 5th place finish. That tournament was a little disappointing as I basically lost a flip for a huge chip lead and most likely a 1st or 2nd place finish. A guy who had play a couple pots with (note the A9 hand before) raised under the gun (UTG) and I just called with Ace-Jack(AJ suited) on the button. The flop came down Jack-rag-rag with two diamonds. He checked it to me and i bet around half pot and he check-raised me all-in. I finally called with the top pair and he turned over King-Ten of diamonds (KdTd) for an over card and a flush draw which he hit on the turn. And that is about the end of my poker results, but I am happy with what I have gotten done in those couple of tournaments.

I really have not play much poker besides these few tournaments. I'm probably going to start playing some more cash games. I love the 7-game on Full Tilt. The games are so super soft and there is money just sitting there waiting for you to sit down and take it. My only beef with it is that there is no Deuce to Seven Triple Draw which happens to be my best game. Where is the 8-game Full Tilt? Sigh. I also plan to play a couple FTOPS events in November and also plan to play almost all of the mini-FTOPS events in December. Look for an update from those tournament series and any cash game action I'm involved in in the future.

Later bloggers!

Seeing Double

Looking at the title of this post, you are probably thinking I have some sort of vision problem and that I really need to get that checked out soon. But wait... NO! you're wrong and seeing double in this case is somewhat good and somewhat bad depending on the perspective you are looking at the devious seeing problem from.

Anyways, I played my first full schedule online in a long while. Starting off the session, I just about wanted to throw my laptop out the window but considering I'm downstairs underground that isn't possible. Yes, I'm thinking clearly. I busted out of the first few satellites I played and busted out of the huge $26 MTT on tilt in an easy squeeze with 18 big blinds and pocket nines and a last the original raiser has pocket kings and the flat caller has pocket queens. No dice on the 2 outer and I'm done there. In this same time, I'm playing the $3 re-buy and I'm just pumping money in to the tournament. I can't win a flip to save my live and even ended the re-buy period in for at least $50+ and last then minimum chips because I lost the last hand before the re-buy period ended and I had like 300 chips left, Fuck my life! Things do change tho...

I start up the Daily Doubles on Tilt which I almost didn't play, but I tilt play the games. If you're not familiar with the Double tournaments on Full Tilt, there is a prize pool that is separate from the prize pool of the tournament. If you double cash (3% shared by everyone), double final table (10% shared by everyone), double win (75%), or have the best finish (3%) in the two combine tournaments you earn a percent of the separate prize pool which is indicated by the numbers in the parentheses. And turned out well. Even the $3 re-buy went well. I built up big stacks in both the doubles and was even in the top 10 in each event with around 100 people left. I basically got 30th and 15th in the events respectively after running like a 3 legged race horse for the last hour of both tournaments which doesn't sound too great but it was the best overall finish and earned me $701 plus $25 for the double cash as well. I cashed in the $3 re-buy but that's not exciting and was only a min-cash.

Looking forward, I'm probably going to put in a couple more sessions online and play a big Sunday schedule as well. Hopefully, I can hit a big score in the coming weeks because I can feel it coming and thought it was last night but a last it was not to be. I think I'm playing well which is a big key to poker even if you're not playing well if you think you are confidence can carry you a long well in this game. Cards can help, too.

I'm done... for now...

Hello Blog... I Have Missed Thee

Apparently, my eager to continue blogging has drastically diminished. The days of me waking up every morning jumping on the laptop and writing have vanished into the warm muggy July Missouri air. But do NOT fret... I am back and blogging in the blog that seems to die every month or two, but always seems to keep coming back for more. I know, I know. Where are all the juicy stories of pokers greatest mind? (That's me right?). They are back and back for good (I hope).

Life updates... Apparently, the University of Missouri hates me, and I will not be attending the oh so great J-school this fall. If everything goes as planned, and my planning does not seem to work out very well, I will go UMKC in the fall and then go from there. There is a possible chance I will be at Mizzou for the spring semester, but most likely I will go a year at UMKC and then be on my way to Mizzou. Hopefully that plan works out. I would really like to get my freaking Journalism degree in the next decade. I have a good 10 years to get that, right? That's about it in terms of my life. Exciting right?

Poker seems to be a little more exciting for me. I have hit an upswing! The Mini Series of Poker on Full Tilt has definitely be a huge series for me. Overall on the series I am up a couple thousands which is huge considering I was almost online busto a couple of weeks prior to the series beginning. I made the final table in the $25 Omaha 8/ Stud 8 mixed event. I ended up 4th in that event for a little of $1k. I also cashed in many events including a variety of games such as 6-max limit hold'em, no limit hold'em, HORSE, Omaha 8 limit, and pot limit omaha 8. I think my game has really evolved and I'm just not a one trick pony and can play all of the games well as shown by my recent results.

The upcoming weeks and months there are a few series that I'm really looking forward to and should play in a few events. In August, Full Tilt is having there oh so popular, oh so awesome, oh so happens every two months and why people complain about that makes me sick FTOPS events. I'm going to take a shot at satelliting in to the events. I'm for sure going to play one of the two $100 events and if I would choose now, it would probably be the Ante Up For Africa event just because it's charity and it's a cool event to have online as well.

After the FTOPS in August, Full Tilt is having a mini-FTOPS similar to the MSOP and the mini-FTOPS they ran earlier in the year. I think they learned from their mistakes and are not going to run the FTOPS and mini-FTOPS at the same time which will probably increase the number of runners in each event. Kudos to Full Tilt on this. P.S. Synchronized Breaks are AMAZING! Get on that Poker Stars!

Speaking of Poker Stars, WCOOP is coming up in September. The schedule looks amazing and looks way out of my bankroll. There's always the hope of magically winning one of the luckbox satellites that Stars runs and then magically running through a field of thousands to take down a World Championship of Online Poker title, but that's no where close to realistic especially given that Poker Stars satellites have extremely terrible structures and there's no way in hell I can run well for even a faction of time on Stars to have even a chance to win a satellite. In other news, I might play the 2-7 triple draw event just because I PWN at 2-7. I would love to play the 2-7 single draw event, but it is a rebuy and way out of my bankroll. Going to war with only one bullet, especially in 2-7 NL, would be on the edge of suicide (in poker terms, of course).

That's it.. I'm done.. More to come..

BAP for Mini-FTOPS

Hey guys. I'm playing the mini-FTOPS coming up, and I decided to run a BAP to reduce varience and share the wealth with some of my fellow players and friends in the poker world. I have played in and cashed in some of the biggest tournaments online. Recently, I finished 25th out of 1800 runners in an event for the SCOOP tournament series on Poker Stars, so I am really close to cracking that big final table and would love for you to cash in as well when I hit it during this mini-FTOPS.

A few details of the BAP:

1. I will run 11 events(schedule below) totaling $296.

2. I will sell 59 $5 shares. (I will eat the extra $1 in the BAP)

3. Any remaining shares after the BAP closes I will buy.

4. The percent for this BAP is 70% plus stakeback (to the backers) and 30% to myself after stakeback.
Example: I cash for $1000 in the BAP.
$1000(cash) - $295(stakeback) = $705
$705 * 70%(backers share) = $493.50
$493.50 / 59(shares) = $8.36
$8.36 + $5 (cost of each share) = $13.36 per share.

5. For KO events each KO bounty I recieve will be added to the total cash category.

6. I am also offering make-up on this BAP. For all future BAPs, stakes, etc., you can collect on make-up if I do not cash for more than each share in this BAP.

7. Please send all funds to Baseball Tim (City Letter: R Avatar: White Puppy Dog) on FullTilt.

8. I will accept reserves up to the start time of the first event (I may accept after this time but this is the time right now)

9. Any questions please send me an IM @jays_baseball07 (yahoo) or jays07baseball (AIM).

A really really quick update on things going on! As some of you know, my grandma passed away this week. I think it's better this way as she was in a lot of pain these last few weeks and she's in a better place now! I'm going to miss her but that's how life is sometimes! Always remember the good and remember they want you to continue to life your life and not dwell on them! Luv ya!

Other than that I'm not doing much. School is kicking my ass, but I'm grinding through. It's hard to believe that this semester is close to being over. A month and a half is still a long time, but it will fly by. My last month and a half at Longview shall be fun! See you in the fall Mizzou!

My Missouri Tigers basketball team made a run to the Elite 8! It was definitely one of the most exciting season to watch in Tigers history! It just sucks we did not make it to that stupid freakin Final 4! Oh well, signing Coach Mike Anderson to a 7 year deal definitely makes up for it a little bit! 40 minutes of hell has found a permanent residence in Columbia, Missouri! Even though we lose Demarre, Leo, and Matt, I think we will be a strong team. In the second half of the UCONN game, you saw the feature take the lead in the game with Safford, Ramsey, and Bowers. Add in my boy Michael Dixon and Keith Dewitt and this team may not fall off much! Hopefully we get Mr. Jarrid Famous to COMO next fall!

I made a twitter account like 6 months ago but never tweeted. I have finally gave in and started to. Follow all of my poker, life, sports, and just random nonesense @ http://twitter.com/BaseballTim.

That's it! I might do a quick baseball preview in the next week! I don't think doing a preview a week into the season is that much of cheating. Of course, if Pujols, C.C., etc. get hurt it will help some, but I do not believe that will happen! Royals with a huge surprise this year! You can put it on the board! YES!!!!

Update!, Update!, Update!

First off I'm going to say I'm sorry for not having more frequent updates in January and half way through February. I've been really busy with family issues and having a lot of stuff with school since I'm back to a full schedule this semester. And really I haven't had much to update in regards to poker. So we'll cover all of that then look to the future and a couple exciting things going on for me.

I kinda have sad news as my grandma is in the hospital. She had lung, breast, and some other cancer that I can't think of right now. Anyways, she's not doing to well and is in the hospital. I really hope she does get well, but I've already come to terms a long time ago. However, there is still a little hope. So if you can say a little something (prayer, or whatever) that would be nice.

Starting a full schedule for college again this semester is really awesome. Last semester I took a few online classes and it really sucked just because I did not get to interact with anyone. It's really nice just to get out and talk to people instead of sitting in your house 24/7. Well, I did not sit 24/7 but it seemed like it. Oh yeah, and the females don't hurt either! :) Classes are awesome, people are awesome, and I'm awesome! It just awesome!

Poker-wise everything is not so awesome. I'm on a little downswing. A couple grand down last couple months, so it's not too great. I took a shot this past weekend and missed. I played really well, but two hands really got me. One the guy called with a bluff catcher which really sucks and the other I get 2-outed. It really sucks. It looks like I'm going to start 8 to 12 tabling single-table turbo sit n goes. A couple weeks ago I had some success, so I'll see if I can grind into April when I'm probably going to go busto or be way better off than I am right now!

What's in April you ask? Poker Stars has introduced their new spring tournament series. The series has 30 million in guaranteed and has 3 different tiers of buy-ins. The low tier is where I will be playing just because it's too nice to pass up. The middle tier is very similar to a FTOPS schedule and the high tier is beyond ridiculous but that's what the higher rollers wanted. I'm really excited about this tournament series. I'm almost sure this is final, so I'm going to post the full schedule below and the events I plan on playing.

Hello 2009

Welcome to the year 2009! I'm just going to show some of the goals I'm going after in 2009. I'm going to include both some personal goals for myself in poker and some outside goals on the year as well. Here's to a great 2009!

Some goals outside of poker include some weight loss and college goals
Maintain 4.0 college GPA
Lose weight gained since high school (about 20lbs)
Start to work out again

-Eat healthier
Continue Writing

-Finish the current novel I’m writing

Now to the poker goals for 2009! We're going to have some goals for live tournaments, Railbirds tournaments, and the regular tournaments on Stars and Full Tilt!
-Continue bankroll spreadsheet (started from December 2008)
-Win at least one live tournament (Daily, and local count. After I turn 21 of course)
-Don’t TILT! (Almost never do but trying to not at all).
-Win more prop bets than I lose
-Win at least one HORSE Pick’em for a live major event
-Don’t get addicted to Chinese Poker

-Five 4 figure+ scores
-At least one $5000+ score
-Be profitable in cash games
-$200 HA, PLO, Hold’em (By end of year)
-$3/6, $5/10 HORSE, Triple Draw, Badugi, Badeucy (Hopefully, one time stars?) (By end of the year)
-Play at least 5 total SCOOP, WCOOP, FTOPS, etc. events on the year

That's all I can come up with on this early January late night/morning. I'm probably going to add goals as I obtain some goals. I know some of these goals are lofty, but I want to set my hopes high. You can stay tuned to this blog as I will keep track of these goals and many other things as they happen through out the year. Have a great 2009!

Peace, Tim!
